The top three tips for growing your own arugula!
1. Location matters: Arugula loves cool weather. Choose a spot that gets partial shade during the summer, especially in Miami. This helps prevent it from bolting (going to seed) too quickly.
2. Sow Successively: Arugula matures quickly and can be harvested when it’s still young and tender so sow them successively every few weeks to give you a continuous harvest.
3. Consistent Watering and Well-Drained Soil: Keep soil moist but not waterlogged. Arugula thrives in well-draining soil rich in organic matter. And of course, mulching is always a plus to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

I’ve been a busy bee 🐝 literally and figuratively. Every morning, Olie and I spend about 2-3 minutes after drop off checking to see if there are squash blossoms to pollinate. It’s depressing to say but that’s all the gardening I can squeeze in lately. Greek philosopher Heraclitus once wrote, “Everything changes and nothing remains still; and you cannot step twice into the same stream.” I’m looking at frontyard garden and thinking the same. This space looks different every season since we decided to pull out the grass and grow food in its place. When I was pregnant with my last baby, I transitioned all the beds over to @vego_garden beds. That was one final time we would make any big changes to this space. This season would mark the first season we’re growing with all the structures permanently in placed. Alas that is not case now. Over the summer, the city stopped by to let know our trellises need a permit or it has to go. The beds can stay. We’re just going to relocate everything, disassemble the trellis, and put boring turf back. The citation is not the main reason why we decided to disassemble the front garden but a small part of it.
